Caren Kennedy
Lead Singer
One Cat Left's Lead Lady joined the band in early 2010, and ever since, the band has taken on a new direction and their amazing energy is contageous! Caren was even nominated for "Best Female Vocalist" in the 2010 Lehigh Valley Music Awards. "Joining the 'Cats' is the best thing I've done [musically], and I look forward to really growing with these guys!!" In a male-dominated world of music, Caren fits right in with her fun, sassy attitude and zest for life. She claims that she's "just one of the guys," but when she gets out on the stage and starts doing what she does best, it's easy to tell that she is a ROCK CHICK through and through.
BEFORE becoming a "rock chick":
Music has been Caren's passion for as long as she can remember. In her younger years, however, she never had the confidence to think that she would some day become a singer/song-writer, and that music would be such a big part of her life—nor did she think it was even a possibility. Flash-forward 20 years or so, and music is such an integral part of her life.
Caren started out in the background, singing backing vocals and an occasional lead in a couple of bands. She also worked in various studios adding harmonies on albums that her friends were recording. Harmonies have always fascinated her, so adding them wherever she “heard” them was a lot of fun. But after a while she got the itch to sing lead, so she found good songs that fit her voice and started taking the spotlight as the lead singer in a cover band. Songs by Joni Mitchell, Pat Benatar, Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, the Pretenders, and others were songs that inspired Caren to sing, so she found them in her singing “comfort zone.”
Caren also has a collaborative writing partnership with her good friend Michael Ghiggeri, and in 2006 their combined writing efforts helped Caren release her own CD entitled “Out There.” In their partnership, Caren is mainly the lyricist and Michael writes melodies, which has proven to be an awesome combination. Caren writes songs that inspire her and come from the heart. These songs span several genres, and while she still collaborates with Michael Ghiggeri, she has begun collaborating with others as well.
